2011 NSW & QLD funding round focal areas

Families

Between 1986 and 2001, the number of one-parent families in Australia increased by 53%. In contrast, the number of couple families with children increased by only 3%. Changes in family composition have implications for a wide range of community services including: income support, aged care, health and education services, children's welfare and housing, among others. Family structures are complex and dynamic by nature, with care and support networks often extending outside household boundaries. In 2006-07 there were 8.1 million households in Australia. This number is expected to increase by up to 4 million over the next 25 years.

Communities

Challenges exist in supporting our communities to become inclusive hubs which provide increased opportunities for meaningful participation. Projects which focus on facilitating enterprise and employment; enhancing community safety and wellbeing; and promoting sustainability are the keys to strengthening community capacity.

The Foundation's NSW & QLD funding program for 2011/12 is now closed.

Starlight Reaches Out

Starlight Launches to the Sky

The Starlight Foundation is now visiting more hospitals than ever before. We are helping to bring the inspiring ‘in-hospital’ programs to hospitals in Maitland, Gosford, Armidale, Tamworth, Lismore and even the Gold Coast. These programs will help bring a smile to the faces of seriously ill children and their families. Greater staff members have also been helping the Starlight Captains deliver the program, and will continue to support them as they travel around, lifting the spirits of some really sick kids and reminding them what it’s like to be a child again.
